A Teddy Bear

Daily writing prompt
Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

Around the age of 5, I had a teddy bear that I took everywhere with me. I loved stuffed animals and my bed was full of them. My mom would comment that sometimes you couldn’t find me sleeping because I had so many!

On a family vacation to British Columbia, I was playing with the bear in a family member’s basement. I had set it on the windowsill for some reason as only my imagination would know why, and that was on the day we were to leave. For some reason, with packing and saying good-bye to everyone, I forgot the bear on the windowsill and I never got it back.

As an adult, I have a teddy bear I cherish because my youngest son wanted me to have something that could stay with me so I wouldn’t be lonely at night after his dad moved out during our divorce. I still have that bear, and it means so much to me, especially since he’d asked his grandmother to find one with a heart on it. She couldn’t find one, so she made one and sewed it on so he wouldn’t be disappointed.

The other day, my partner/husband bought me a small pink, unicorn stuffy. I love all things pink, and it now sits with my teddy bear. I guess at 50 years old, I’m collecting stuffed animals again! hahaha…
